Cinema and Theatre

Florence is relatively a small city and one can have a ball here with regards to entertainment on offer. Also there are more cultural events available for the tourist all year round.

Cinema:
Non stop cinematography is what’s on the cards here. There are many renovated cinemas that are springing up in Florence, and cinema that use to close during the Italians holiday period (July to early September) are now remaining open due to demand. Modern single screen cinemas, huge multi-plexes and smaller independent cinemas are all here in Florence.

On Wednesday the enterance cost is reduced and also for the month of December. From June to September one can see a film outside in the fresh air whilst sitting beneath the stars, while many other cinemas will cope with air conditioning, the best way to avoid the humidity of Florence. Cinemas such as Goldoni and Odeon cinehall in the centro storico show films in their original language.

Theatre:
Despite the fact that there are twice as many cinemas as theatres in Florence, that does not mean that the Florentines prefer the silver screen to the stage and live performance. The tradition of theatre has been very noteworthy, like the well known Maggio Musicale Fiorentino attracts the attention of many well known people.

Why not go to an upbeat comedy by Neil Simon at the teatro della Pergola, or even a more provocative drama such as A Street Car Named Desire at the Teatro Manzoni. The Metastasio Theatre will have the likes of a Shakespearian play normally on their books.
